Flossmoor invites you to explore details of 30 of the most architecturally significant homes in our Village! This interactive map showcases the diverse and beautiful housing stock of our community. Homes were selected by the Carlile Group — a collective of experts committed to advancing the science of buildings based in Manteno, IL — following the criteria below:
- Being at least 50 years old
- Being architecturally significant and embodying the distinctive characteristics of a type, period or method of construction and design
- Maintaining architectural integrity (not significantly modified from the original design)
The Village aims to spark interest in our community through this initiative and to establish recognition for Flossmoor as a destination for architectural gems within greater Chicagoland.

Project Background
In 2018, the Community Relations Commission proposed a method to promote Flossmoor’s historic downtown and housing stock, while advocating for the preservation and restoration of historic buildings in the Village. Funding and planning for the project were approved by the Village Board of Trustees in 2019; research began in 2020. This phase involved having resident-volunteers photograph all homes across various areas of the Village and then creating a database. In 2023, the Carlile Group conducted a survey of the buildings, reviewed and nominated the chosen properties. Municipal GIS Partners then compiled the information gathered by Carlile and the Village into an interactive map, prepared for public use in 2026.
