Mayor Michelle Nelson

Michelle Nelson was first elected Mayor of Flossmoor in April 2021, then she was reelected in 2025. Her current term expires in 2029. 

Mayor Nelson has lived in Flossmoor since 2003. She and her husband, Cameron, have four children: Kate, Liam, Logan and Kamryn. She holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and is a former construction manager. She is also the co-founder of H-F Robotics and the Foundation for the Preservation of Flossmoor History, a founding board member of the Homewood Science Center, and a volunteer for multiple community events and organizations, including the Hidden Gem Half Marathon.

Mayor Nelson also serves on the Council of Mayors Executive Committee of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, and is the South Suburban Mayors & Managers Executive Board Treasurer and Chairperson of the Transportation Committee.

Mayor Nelson was a commissioner of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 12 years prior to being elected to Mayor.
