Pan-African Flags in Flossmoor

Pan African Flag in Downtown Flossmoor

The Village of Flossmoor proudly celebrates Black History Month every February, a month during which we recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans to our national landscape and community. This month Flossmoor will display Pan-African flags throughout our downtown. The Pan-African flag and its colors of red, black and green — which have become associated with Black History Month — are symbols of solidarity for the African diaspora, which means those individuals around the world who share African ancestry.

By taking time to recognize Black History Month, Flossmoor acknowledges that our Village is strengthened by our diversity and that representation is important. Flossmoor displays the flag to strengthen the bonds of solidarity, celebrate our differences and to continue to promote social and economic progress for African Americans that has been delayed by centuries of injustice.
