Sanitary Sewer Blockages Policy

The Village of Flossmoor will be responsible to clear all blockages in publicly owned sanitary sewer mains located in public right of ways or within easements dedicated to the Village. The homeowner or property owner is responsible for any repairs and/or corrections to the sanitary sewer service line.

Sanitary Sewer Service Line

The sanitary sewer service line is defined as that part of the sewer system that extends from the end of the building drain to the point where it is connected to a public sewer. Portions of service lines are usually located on both private property and in the public right of way. Repairs and/or corrections include the clearing of blockages.

If the location of a blockage is in doubt, the Village will determine if the blockage is in the publicly owned sewer main by visual observation or remedial sewer jetting.

Payments

Any blockage in a sanitary service line necessitating excavation within the street right of way will be done under permit from the Village at the property owner's expense. Additionally, any and all costs and labor for restoration of any such excavation to repair a sanitary sewer service line, whether on private property or in the public right of way, shall be the property owner's responsibility.

The Village of Flossmoor will not be responsible for any property damage resulting from blockages in either sanitary sewer mains or sanitary sewer service lines.
