The Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department is organized according to the statutory requirements found in Chapter 33 of the Flossmoor Municipal Code. Section 1-1 states: "There is hereby created and established a Fire Department, consisting of a Chief, who shall be appointed by the Mayor and with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, and such Assistant Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, and Firemen as may from time to time be appointed by the Chief within the maximum provided for from time to time by the Mayor and Board of Trustees."
The department presently consists of the following full time staff:

The department presently consists of nine Kurtz contracted employees:
3 Shift Commanders
These individuals staff the department on a 24 hour basis.

1 EMS Coordinator
30 Volunteer Firefighters
Part Time Staff The department is approved for 20 Firefighter/Paramedics that supplement the contract staff providing a fourth person on a 24 hour basis.
The Fire Department is responsible for the Fire Inspection Program. All commercial properties, schools, and apartment buildings are inspected twice annually. The Assistant Fire Chief provides daily supervision of the Building Department.
